Have an ex60 hitachi and after sitting outside the oil in the swing motor appears milky. I changed it once and was wondering if there was a secret to flushing it so the oil stays clean. The location of the drain makes it a challenge to start with.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I was hoping i could get some feedback on how some people set up and lay a first pipe when starting a new sewer or s/w line.I have tried a couple of methods but find them to be time consuming.
Thanks.

Problem: A backhoe weighing 8 tons is on top of a flatbed trailer heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas The extended shovel arm is made of hardened refined steel and the approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a criss-cross pattern layered with 1 foot vertical spacing.
Solve: When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast does the trailer with the backhoe have to be going to slice the bridge in half? (Assume no headwind and no braking by the driver who is oblivious of the situation . . . )
Extra Credit: Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above .
Answer: It doesn't really matter... The point is that the trucking company just bought themselves a bridge

A buddy of mine, who I worked for earlier this summer, is looking at a couple excavators that can be had for cheap but need work. One is a Komatsu PC150-3, I think he said it can be had for about $4K, but it needs a new final drive I believe. The other is a '94 Hitachi EX200, I assume that's a dash 4? The 200 needs a couple new engine compartment doors, a seat, cab door, and a hydraulic pump I believe. This machine is $10,000 I think, maybe a little more, but it has relatively low hours. Not really sure how you blow a hydraulic pump, but I think the rest of the machine is pretty tight and it has 6K hours. I know there are a few guys in the Seattle area who browse here, maybe someone locally has an idea as to where to find some used parts. Looking for parts locally if possible but I guess even with shipping the parts would probably be cheaper than dealership prices if that's what it came down to. He's also looking at a Cat 955, I'm assuming B series, track loader that needs a head gasket, but that would be an easy fix.

What makes an excavator more desirable than a comparably sized backhoe/loader. It seems to me that a backhoe/loader would be better because it can do more than just dig but i'm sure I'm missing something.
Thanks

Our Kobelco was running horribly the other day. It would run up to its high rpm for about 10 minutes then it would stumble and sputter for a few seconds then it would run back up again.
I thought I had a bad fuel filter so I replaced it. When I pulled the old one off, it looked like a piece of latex was lining the inside of the filter and not letting the engine get any fuel.
After the new filter was on, it did the same thing. It looks like someone dropped a latex glove in there and it is coming out in pieces about the size of a quarter.
Now the machine will run fine for 15 minutes then take a dump on itself and I have to get out and clean all of the pieces out of the filter.
Is there a liner in the tank that is coming apart? I would really like to think that it wasnt vandalism or sabotage!

Got an issue with my Hoe (Case 9030B) .. Came back to the shop for an oil change after about 150 hours .. (she has 8300 hours) Only about a gallon and a half left in it .. cleaned it up .. Exhaust is good .. blowby virtually non-existent .. turbo is clean .. front and rear main seals are good .. oil pan gasket is good .. there was some loose bolts with some oil on the side cover, but Im having a hard time believing all that oil came out there .. Any thoughts .. my techs are kind of stumped .. granted they are Ag Techs but we service those 5.9 Cummins all the time. She runs like new with lots of power .. and yes I fired the operator .. knows how to run a hoe but forgot how to use a grease gun
